SOCIAL WORK PATHOLOGY

What do you know about Social work Pathology?

✋🏿 pause……to be fair I am not sure if there is a terminology or even a disease like that…..but maybe you can share with me how we can describe this condition: a mental disease that eats away a social worker because they are not employed or because they don’t get satisfaction from what they are employed to do. When one finds themselves in this State, they feel and to an extent believe that they are of no value

And it does not help that some of us who share photos, events etc make it seem like our social work experience is much better than yours. Well it is not, but that aside, here is what I think you should do.

  1. As a social worker, our “business” is with problems- so train your mind to constantly look for challenges and think of ways you can assist in addressing that particular challenge.
  2. Apply on yourself what you know. (As a social worker you have knowledge, skills and even experience to empower someone who may be in the same situation you are in, so why don’t you try it on yourself)
  3. It is supposed to be difficult (at least that has been my experience). Before you get that job, opportunity or projet that you want, you will have to struggle- accept that.
  4. There is no substitute for hard work and working for long hours. It may not be healthy but of all the social workers I know, admire and respect they do so much that you cannot even survive being them.

In conclusion; we give meaning to our work. It is not the other way round

  1. It couldn’t have come at a much better time. I feel this everyday. Now I can take charge and make a difference. Thank you Mike.
